Vice President for Advancement

POSITION PURPOSEThe Vice President for Advancement works closely with the President, cabinet and board of trustees to deliver a robust and comprehensive advancement program for the university.
The Vice President will serve as the Chief Advancement Officer, forging mutually beneficial relationships and revenue streams to underpin the priorities of the university's strategic plan.
With an emphasis on alumni relations, corporate relations, annual giving, major giving and planned giving and public sector grants, the Vice President will ensure an education at Lakeland University remains increasingly accessible and exceptional.
S/he will maintain the integrity of the university's mission and image in the external community.
S/he will maintain relationships with the world-class companies in our region, articulating the value of our cooperative education university and strengthening mutually beneficial relationships.
The Vice President for Advancement will coordinate the university's next comprehensive capital campaign, in alignment with efforts to grow the endowment and support the university's vision for 2037 (175th anniversary).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Supervise a team of advancement professionals including alumni relations, corporate and foundation giving, annual giving and advancement services.
Help to build a strong foundation for a state and federal grant writing program.
Lead advancement staff to ensure maximum effectiveness, manage department and individual goals and assess progress.
Act as a major gift officer, maintaining an active prospect portfolio.
Work closely with the president to engage major gift prospects and ensure stewardship opportunities are created in collaboration.
Ensure alignment among major Co-Op employer partners and overall corporate relations strategies.
Focus on securing support for a set of priorities that are communicated by the president and cabinet, lead efforts in development of physical and virtual content (in collaboration with the marketing team) to be used by fundraisers to raise awareness of giving opportunities.
Develop initiatives to connect with area organizations and community groups to share the university's message and cultivate opportunities for support.
Identify internal and external opportunities for the university to advance.
Serve in a community-relations role in terms of representing Lakeland through community board membership and at community events as deemed appropriate.
Identify community leaders that should be introduced to the university and have the capacity to help advance the institution through strategic or financial support.
Implement strategies for university engagement and cultivation.
Collect, analyze, and distribute data from our CRM related to fundraising goals and reports to be reviewed by the cabinet and board of trustees.
Develop and oversee the allocation of departmental budget dollars for Advancement initiatives.
Engage alumni and community constituencies through events, gatherings and other activities so they are more likely to understand and support the mission of the university.
Nurture understanding and support among the university community including faculty, staff and students.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & SKILLS Master's degree preferred.
Demonstrated and progressive accomplishment(s) in planning, managing, and growing revenue streams across the spectrum of advancement programs and campaigns, preferably in a higher education setting.
Successful experience building, leading, training, and nurturing winning staff teams.
Significant and proven results in major gift fundraising.
Strong and persuasive communication skills:
written, verbal and interpersonal.
Excellent organizational skills.
Personal qualities essential to success include:
trustworthiness, openness, accessibility, flexibility, kindness and a sense of humor.
Experience in the areas of data management and analytics preferred.
Expertise in marketing and communications preferred.
Some evening and weekend hours are required.
Occasional travel may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT No or very limited exposure to physical risk; Some limited physical effort required; Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
