Distance Education Librarian

POSITION PURPOSE
Supports the university's academic, persistence, and completion goals by providing library support to students, faculty and staff in the Evening, Weekend, and Online program. The person in this position develops instructional materials and teaches students the information literacy skills essential to lifelong learning and to success in Lakeland's varied curricula. The Distance Education Librarian must be knowledgeable about print and electronic information sources and be able to instruct students on the use of these resources in formal and informal settings. The Distance Education Librarian plans and markets library services to the EWO community. The Distance Education Librarian is an active member of the library team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Works with faculty and instructional design team to develop programming that addresses student academic needs and supports student persistence, completion, and success;
Supports university mission and foster student success by providing leadership in planning, implementing and promoting library services for EWO community
Prepares and delivers customized subject-specific instructional sessions online and in-person and synchronously and asynchronously;
Develops, plans and executes marketing activities for EWO library services;
Provides library orientation to incoming students and faculty;
Instructs EWO faculty, online and in person, on the availability and use of online resources in their subject area;
Provides reference assistance, including specialized subject specific assistance, to students, faculty, and staff, both in person and remotely;
Provides oral and written instructions in a clear and concise manner and produces written documentation;
Creates and maintains self-directed instructional materials including online research guides and tutorials;
Provides bibliographic instruction webinars;
Communicates effectively with students, faculty and staff with varying levels of technological and information literacy expertise;
Serves as an active member of the library team to accomplish strategic goals and promotion of the library;
Maintains statistical records;
Assigns tasks and monitors performance of student employees;
Maintains physical periodicals collection;
Processes the library's withdrawn serials materials requiring knowledge of both Polaris and Full Text Finder;
Monitors student assistants in tasks associated with periodicals which include receipt of periodicals, and physically processing periodicals;
Advises on serials acquisitions and deselection;
Has commitment to ongoing professional development;
Keeps current with library and instructional technologies;
Opens and closes library as scheduled;
Collects fines;
Must be able to work evenings and weekends as scheduled;
Must be able to travel to Lakeland Centers as scheduled;
Performs other duties as assigned
SPECIALIZE KNOW-HOW & SKILLS
ALA accredited Master's degree;
Demonstrated ability to advance an information literacy program based on best practices, resources, and emerging trends;
Minimum of 3 years academic library experience including
o Instructional responsibilities
o Knowledge of library practices, procedures and resources;
o Knowledge of automated library information systems;
o Knowledge of basic data information research methods;
o Skill in using library reference techniques and resources;
o Knowledge of course management systems like Blackboard;
o Knowledge of LibGuides;
Knowledge of APA writing style;
Demonstrated ability to tactfully and effectively communicate (written and verbal) with a variety of individuals;
Ability to identify, organize, and prioritize tasks;
Effective problem solving skills;
Computing skills including, but not limited to: Windows, MS Office Applications, internet applications, screen capture and screen casting technologies;
Demonstrates multicultural competence the ability to work in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways with others who are culturally different;
Skill managing social media;
Ability to troubleshoot computers and/or software applications;
Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment
Valid driver's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
May require some physical effort ability to lift at least 25 pounds;
Ability to stoop, bent, and reach;
Duties regularly require sitting;
Required to use keying skills;
Visual requirements associated with keying data, often detailed and numerical;
Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone;
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment;
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
